Lesson 145: List of Verbs + Infinitives

Prepositions are often used after a conjugated verb and before an infinitive. But there are some verbs that do not require a preposition to precede the infinitive, as seen in the list below:

  • amare to love

    Amiamo pescare.
    We love to fish.

  • desiderare to wish
  • detestare to hate, to detest
  • dovere to have to, must
  • intendere to intend
  • potere to be able to, may, can
  • preferire to prefer
  • sapere to know, to know how to
  • volere to want
The following expressions also do not require a preposition before the infinitive:
  • bisogna it's necessary
  • è facile it's easy
  • è difficile it's difficult
  • è possibile it's possible
  • è impossibile it's impossible
  • è vietato it's forbidden
This following list of verbs functions like piacere and does not require a preposition before the infinitive:
  • piacere to like
  • bastare to be enough
  • convenire to be better
  • dispiacere to be sorry
  • interessare to be interesting
  • occorrere to be necessary
  • rincrescere to be sorry
  • seccare to bother
  • toccare to be one's turn
  • andare bene to be OK
