Prepositions are often used after a conjugated verb and before an infinitive. But there are some verbs that do not require a preposition to precede the infinitive, as seen in the list below:
- amare to love
Amiamo pescare.
We love to fish.
- desiderare to wish
- detestare to hate, to detest
- dovere to have to, must
- intendere to intend
- potere to be able to, may, can
- preferire to prefer
- sapere to know, to know how to
- volere to want
The following expressions also do not require a preposition before the infinitive:
